Yoga & Live Music Performance
Music as a means to elevate your yoga practice
The practice of Yoga allows for a physical and spiritual connection to the world around us. Breath and asana together combine
to open the heart and connect us to the soul. Likewise, music is a powerful connection to emotion and the awareness of life.
Together music and yoga can help us experience joy, sorrow, and a multitude of emotions, as the heart opens to the world.
Deborah Burkman is offering a yoga workshop on May 2, 2004 at 7:30pm, which will combine the experience of live music with
Hatha yoga. Many of us have enjoyed listening to CD soundtracks during yoga class. Now, experience the amazing Sparlha Swa
*LIVE*, while being lead by Deborah through a vigorous Hatha flow class. All levels are welcome.
During this workshop, we will focus on the relationship between the art of music and yoga. Find new ways of listening to
your body through music. Don’t miss Sparlha Swa’s inspirational music and lyrics.
Deborah Burkman , who is certified to teach yoga by The Mindful Body and David Swenson, draws from a deep tool
box of mind-body techniques and healing modalities involving: acting , yoga, dance, massage therapy. Her yoga training consisted
of studying asana and philosophy with several master teachers in India including: Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, A. Vankatesh, and
V. Shaeshadri. Most recently, she has studied with Richard Freeman, Ana Forrest, Sarah Powers, Paul Gilles, and David Swenson.
Drawing form the teaching from these various practitioners, Deborah’s unique teaching style stresses a strong fluid
practice with emphasis on heart mind body connections.
Sparlha Swa sings to you from the place where sound meets spirit. An irresistible blend
of soul and folk, with simple yet powerful guitar accompaniment and profoundly moving lyrics, her voice carries you into the
deepest within yourself, and there offers insights that heal, inspire, and uplift. This music, often born of sorrow, for the
sake of release and rejoicing, covers issues both spiritual and political, and holds uncompromisingly as its aim, the uprising
of the highest in each of us. Check out her website at www.sparlhaswa.com
